How clean is the air you breathe?
The World Health Organisation reports that many cities around the world fall well below acceptable levels of air pollution. In the UK alone, where measurements were available, 44 out of 60 cities in the UK exceed acceptable limits. At times in 2017, pollution levels in London were higher than those in Beijing!
To win the battle against pollution we need much more hard evidence. wAQM is a small, low cost, wearable Air Quality Monitor that will take air samples every 10 to 30 seconds and upload the geolocation and sensor data to a Cloud Database.
The database will provide empirical evidence from sensor data captured over time to assist legal teams and campaigners in their efforts to regulate polluters and improve air quality. The data will be time-lined so that any new initiative to improve air quality can be monitored and seen to be working - or not.
The data will be anonymised, visualised and overlaid onto City Maps in real time. These visualisations will help you to decide where you live, work and play, or where your children are schooled or what route you take on your daily journey to and from work or school.
